While the event was a success in some respects, and I guess it did achieve the objective of populating the forum a bit, it was not in anyway what I wanted.

My team (Cos, Sofi and I), starting at 9:00 am, spent most of the day on the forum interacting with each other. We started threads, posted replies, and for the most part had a pretty good time. Before we knew it, it was 1:00 pm… but not a single other person had come to join us.

I sent a text message to a friend of mine, who between bouts of work, did pop on the forum a few times, and Cos’ lady-friend posted a few messages when she got home from work, but apart from the five of us, no one turned up.

I could have been more aggressive in my promotion of the event, but I didn’t want to force people to come along if they didn’t want to… Saying that, however, we did get a mention on Wyvern FM, a local radio station, but that was only because the DJ at the time, Tom Campbell (a very good DJ by the way… if you’re reading, Radio One, you should hire him) is a friend of ours.

We all had a break between 3:30 and 4:30, then at 6:00 – went to KFC for dinner.

I’m not sure what went wrong, but for now I have more important things to work on, such as the new site interface which I’ll be working on for the rest of the weekend.

Slightly off topic…. but where I had expected to come back from KFC with a belly full of delicious chicken – came back with a little more than I bargained for:

Sofi wanted to go into the pet shop by KFC to get some bits for her hamster, and to cut a long story short, I kinda fell in love with these Roborovski hamsters, who were in the adoption center. So after a quick text to my landlord to make sure he didn’t mind pets, I adopted them.

They’re called ZZ One, ZZ Two and ZZ Three, after the robots in the short story Victory Unintentional by Asimov. Just don’t ask me to point out which is which, because they’re all identical.
