The Homepage of Daniel Hollands: Web Development Graduate!
25 Jan 2010
Wow, so, like, it’s been AGES since I last updated this blog – sorry about that.
As anyone that was following my progress will know, I was working on finishing the Independent Study for my degree at the University of Worcester. The deadline was Thursday the 17th December 2009, and seeing as it is now the 25th January 2010, I either handed it in on time, or I didn’t.
I handed it in on time!
I was finished with the report itself by the Monday evening, with nothing left to do but head onto campus to print it out Tuesday, get it bound on Wednesday, and hand it in on Thursday, before heading off to my leaving interview (leaving my IT and Media Support job at the University’s library that is).
The last few days were quite frantic, getting everything together, making sure that site worked the way it was meant to, and everything else involved in such a task, and after it was all done and handed in, even though I was happy to finally see the back of it, I wasn’t 100% happy with how it turned out.
I’ve been told that the exam board meeting (the people who confirm the grades or something like that) is happening in mid-February, so I should have some official grades for it by then, but until then, I’m sat here worrying about how well I did.
Oh well, that was the old, the new is that I’ve got a new job!
I’m currently the web developer for South Worcestershire College. The contract only lasts until end of July 2010, and the wages are not fantastic, but it’s better than no job, and allows me to flex my skills in the real world. It is my job to fix their current site and bring it up to date with legal regulations, in addition to improving aspects such as its accessibility and usability.
So expect lots of blog posts about this project as I curse my way through it.. hopefully I might even end up with something fairly decent.
